It is esti mated that 450 cars of hay were shipped into this county last winter. What Eastern Oregon people want is more irrigation yrojects, and as it will not cost the taxpayers one cent for the irrigation measure, but sim ply to back those projects up, 11 looks to us that Tillumook people, es pecially the dairymen, should be as much Interested -in voting for thut measure as the Roosevelt highway measure. ------ o ■ - If the Roosevelt highway measure carries. Multnomah county will con tribute one third of the »2,500,000. And from all accounts that county will poll a big vote In favor of the highway. IF other parts of the state were ns broad minded as Multnomah county Is In building hardsuifaced roads in Its own county, and con tributing large sums in taxation to build roads In other counties, the Pacific Highway would hnve been finished and hurdsurfaced before this, but some of the Willamette valle/ counties, with their moss-back popu lation, showed no disposition to help out two years ago. The snap shot man does not agree with them. As soon as the people of Oregon give the meas ure a favorable vote, the w hole of-the northwest delegation at Washing ton will immediately get busy, for the states of California and Wash ington are just as much if not more so. Interested in the highway as Oregon. Fortunately there is a Re publican congress, and we believe it will <lo the fair thing, especially as the military authorities are in of the building of a military along tlie Pacific Coast. The State Highway Commission should know as soon as possible what action the government will take, for if the road is to be built speedy action is wliat is wanted. There is a “gentleman’s agree ment" between the State Highway Commission and Tillamook County that 20 miles of hard surface is to be laid in this county tills year. Already a contract has been let for five miles south of this city, and it is up to the voters whether the other 15 miles is to be built this year or sometime in the distant future, The County Court has no money to do the grading, and If this is not provided for other coun ties will obtain the 15 miles of hard- surfacing. Therefore, it is ns well for us to advise the people of this fact, for there appears to be erronious re ports going the rounds that it is not necessary to bond the county. It is absolutely necessary, and no contract will be let until Tillamook county is fluanciail) able to do the grading. The "gentleman’s agreement” was to build 10 miles of hard surfaced road south of this city and 10 miles north, or as fai as Garibaldi if possible, which would be a considerable link to connecting the whole of the north part of the county with a hardsur faced highway through the county. We think we huve fully explained the situation tor the Information of the voters, v hich amounts to this. Those who oppose having another 15 miles of hard surfaced road build this year will vote against the local bond issue. Those who want the 15 miles of hard surfaced road built, and which w ill put the county in a position to receive further state aid next year,- will vote “Yes” X an the county bal lot. It is a clean cut issue whether Tillamook county wants a hardsur- fn<ed highway through the county or o Indications the From present northwest will have a bumper crop of wheat, fruit, hay and dairy pró- ducts, as well as a large production of lumber, w hit'll vill put eonslder- able mone- In circulation, Wiiiter wheat conditions on May 1. a« sur- veyed by the United States depart ment of agriculture, «arrant an ex- pectutlon of a 40.000,000-bushel in- crease this year in the four Pacific northwestern sta .s over last year's short wheat hai t e.« should hold good i wheat w inlet Money Wanted. »500.00 on good real estate ity.
